Day 1: Yangon Arrival & Sightseeing

  • Yangon arrival in the afternoon. (Itinerary can be adjusted base on your flight time.)
  • Meet and greet by your station guide at the airport and then transfer to hotel for check-in.
  • Then, head to Botataung pagoda – situated on the bank of Yangon River. The Pagoda overlooks the pleasant water front of the river. The 40 meter high golden pagoda enshrines a sacred hair relic of Buddha. You will also be able to observe the locals at the many small shops lining up around the pagoda selling Buddhist trinkets, books, souvenirs, flowers, candles, incense, etc. If you like, you can also feed the pigeons by the jetty just next to the pagoda.
  • Chaukhtatkyi Reclining Buddha – this 72m long Buddha image is one of Myanmar’s more revered reclining Buddha.
  • Next, take a short tour to feel the other side of town Yangon. “Colonial Charm”! The crowded city you see today was once ruled by the British Empire and many Victorian-style buildings have survived the ravages of time and retained their glory. Colonial architecture is visible in large numbers of religious buildings, administrative offices, cinemas and residential properties in Yangon, especially close to the downtown area.
  • Lastly, drive to the great Shwedagon Pagoda for sunset appreciation in the evening. This 98-meter gilded stupa is Myanmar’s Holiest Buddhist Shrine that contains relics of the past four Buddhas. The stupa was rebuilt many times until it reached its current height of 98 meters in the 18th century. It is believed that if a person wants to avoid bad luck and misfortune, he must pour water at one’s planetary post and he will be ensure of peace of mind and all anxieties will end.
  • Transfer back to hotel and overnight in Yangon.

Day 2: Yangon – Kyaikthale

  • After breakfast at the hotel, check out and head to Kyaikthalae village (about 1:30 hrs drive). On arrival to Kyaikthalae village, warmly welcome by the people from the community lodge. A talk will then be provided by the community leader to explain more about the village, the people and the project currently supports.
  • This will be followed by lunch and an exploration of the village. There will be a great opportunity to learn about local industry, including bamboo basket weaving and sewing.
  • Dinner will be provided at the community lodge.

Day 3: Kyaikthale

  • Start the day with by making a food offering to the local monks as they go about collecting their alms. After carrying out your day’s “good deed”, we will then return to the Community Lodge for breakfast.
  • Shortly after, we will explore the fields of the local farming community to learn about the creation of natural fertilizer, the cultivation of crops and poultry farming.
  • Assuming you’ve worked up an appetite, we will then enjoy a Myanmar cooking class, using some of the produce sourced from the field. For those we do not wish to join this, or have not worked up an appetite, it will be possible to take part in a tree planting initiative. Lunch will be served at the village.
  • After lunch you can drive to the Phayargyi, where it will be possible to learn about traditional pottery making techniques at the long village’s 15th century kiln site. Should you wish, you will later stop off at the Mingalar monastic school to greet the children. During your visit, it will be possible for you to hand over the vegetables sourced from the bio-garden to make sure they enjoy a nutritious meal.
  • On the way to Twante, it is possible to stop off at the century old Hindu temple at San Village. If you are still keen to learn even more about traditional pottery making techniques, the Twante pottery village can also be visited on your way back to Yangon.
